Moses P. Diddy Hall saw his shadow today…

I’ve always been curious to know… If Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow in Punxsutawney, PA does that affect me where I live?… Does Phil speak for a whole nation?? Can it not be that if Phil sees his little groundhog shadow in Pennsylvania then more winter is predicted for Pennsylvania and not anywhere else.  To me that only makes sense….

We don’t happen to have a groundhog lying around the house but we do have Moses P. Diddy Hall.  Otherwise known as Moe, our family dog.  He is similar in size to a groundhog and has about the same cuteness factor, so I figured he could represent the southern part of the US… or at least Kentucky… well, maybe Lexington… okay, just our house, but if Moe and Phil are on the same page then I am convinced that Phil can be a groundhog that speaks for a whole nation. However, if they weren’t in agreement to the coming weather then Phil is on his own in the future…

Moses P. Diddy Hall stepped out on the porch… Punxsutawney Phil stepped out of this cage.(are you feeling the tension?) On the back porch Moe’s shadow edged into the yard… In Pennsylvania, Phil saw his shadow once again…There is more winter to be seen at our house and in Pennsylvania so we’ll just say that means winter for the entire nation..

Moe did his Groundhog Day job and I’m proud of him,  but since he and his groundhog counterpart saw eye to eye then Moe is released of his duties of weather prediction from this day forward…I guess maybe this proves that groundhogs are a weatherman’s best friend. …

No More No Bake Cookies!!

Three things I remember about school lunches…

  • Chili must be served with an orange half
  • Friday is fish day (although that changed somewhere in my school years)
  • No bake cookies are delicious

No bake cookies are delicious and with peanut butter and oats they are practically health food! (I’m justifying here)  It is winter, cold and laid back at our house.. No bake cookies are the health food/comfort food of choice so I made a double batch.  My daughter went to get one tonight and said, “What?? There is only one left!??!!”  My husband said, “I’ve not even had one.”  Whatever I was doing at the moment I did it with greater intensity and focus and chewed that no bake cookie in my mouth faster.  I was guilty.  No, I didn’t completely eat two batches of cookies by myself….. although I have no doubt that I could have easily done so… I had little helpers but it was definitely a reminder of how easily I fall to temptation that seems so innocent.  What could possibly be wrong with no bake cookies?  Nothing really with a couple, but with 76 we are talking about overdoing for sure…

My lesson- No bake cookies are not for making and having in the house.  They are to be taken to Super Bowl Parties and game nights, etc…. If it is tempting then I need to keep it away from me.. that is the lesson learned

I am so happy that the Super Bowl is tomorrow night… wonder what I should  take to the party?? I hope I have enough peanut butter…………..

Osmond Flashback… I’m a little bit American Idol…

I’m a little bit country, I’m a little bit rock n’ roll .. I’m a little bit Memphis n’ Nashville, With a little bit of Motown in my soul….

Okay, I’m admitting it… My name is Nancy and I am a recovering Osmond fan.  In my tween years I fell into the later years of the the Osmond era…the era that focused on Donny and Marie… I became a fan of purple (Donny’s Favorite) I knew every word to their songs, knew all the brother’s names and trivial bits of info about each one, had the dolls and the stage…

American Idol tonight brought back those memories when an Osmond’s son, Allan’s son, to be exact, auditioned.  I’m not so sure my girls will get on the Osmond bandwagon but I’d vote for him.

Greg the Rabbit also might get my vote… I know, I know… He didn’t really audition and his friend that he was rooting on didn’t make it to the next round…but how cool would it be to always have a 6 foot pink rabbit as your personal cheerleader? I wonder if the pink bunny’s buddy made it through to Hollywood if the Grabbit would get to tag along?  If I had a Greg the Rabbit I would name him Osmond… and he’d be purple.

Squirrel Appreciation Day

I found out today that beginning nine years ago, January 21st marks the annual Squirrel Appreciation Day.  I don’t know that I have ever appreciated a squirrel.  Hmmm….I’m not even sure I know how to appreciate a squirrel.   Baby squirrels are pretty cute… well, after they get some hair …   Is that appreciation?  There I said it… I appreciate baby squirrels.  Now what do I do?  Chocolates? A card?  baby-squirrel

“Buster”

Sometimes I crack myself up.   You know when you say something funny and even if others don’t get it you find it incredibly humorous?  Maybe you can relate.

Last night I had a good laugh in the car. It has been quite some time since I have been in high school and on occasion I see people who haven’t seen me for years. Some recognize me, others don’t. I stopped the other night to get a Diet Coke on my way home from church and as I walked in the store I recognized a guy whom I had known in school. We might have had a class or been in a school club together and we both had sport and school faculty connections but we didn’t really hang out with the same crowd.  I can’t say we were truly friends but more like good acquaintances.

Anyway, being the socially sanguine person that I am not, I bypassed him and made my way to the drink cooler.  I kept one eye on the cooler and one eye on the counter.  He was still in line.  It is not that I didn’t want to be friendly but I just didn’t want to go through the whole process of awkward chit-chat which I have experienced before.  So I peered over the Little Debbies to see if he was gone, and I don’t know what the man in front of him was doing but it was taking forever and he was still there waiting.

I was tired of looking and waiting so I moseyed over to take my place in line behind “Buster” (Not his actual name… really).  I began feeling a bit uncomfortable because I felt like such a jerk not saying anything and the guy in front of him was still doing what he was doing that was taking forever……..So I very quietly, just in case it wasn’t him, mumbled a soft, “Buster”.  I could tell that he had heard me because he slightly looked to his right and scouted to see who said his name but then turned back around.   So, I upped my volume a tiny bit and uttered, “Buster,” one more time.  This time he turned around completely to see if someone was saying his name.  When he turned he obviously didn’t recognize me so rather than be offended I decided it was time to have some fun.   I quietly said his name again and when he looked around I just happened to be looking the other way. And then again and again…………Okay, I didn’t really do that… the second time I said his name I also made a point to grab his sleeve.  He really didn’t recognize me but when I reintroduced myself he was actually pretty friendly.

He left.  I got back into my car and on the way home I began thinking about that whole “how funny it could have been” situation… I chuckled pretty much all the way home.

Who’s calling your name?  Has it been too long? Would you recognize the voice?

“He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.” John 10:3b (NIV)
